##...my first original question was that we would use rules/regulations/policies to prevent us from doing wrong. However, what would we use to prevent our mind from traveling or to make it focussed.
Sakymuni created a whole bunch of rules/policies for monks, nun, and us. We then use those to prevent our body from doing wrong things and hope to get to the englightment stage. We know that in every single one of us, there are 2 parts. One is physical needs and one is spiritual needs. We really much know what to do to comply with the physical needs but for the spiritual needs we are still having doubts on sometimes.

So here is my question again and hope that I won't confuse you.
What should we do to keep our mind to not traveling or if there are ways to help us to stay focussed? ##
There are many ways to focus your mind; you can use methods practiced by Tantra, Zen, Theravada's Insight meditation, or Pureland's nembutsu. Tantra, Zen or Insight meditation are more difficult to learn, so you need a teacher. You can learn Pureland from the Chua Vietnam's Web pages. Spiritual needs go beyond focusing one's mind. Spiritual need is personal: one likes to get enlightened by sitting cross-legged, the other be reborn in the Pureland or enters Nirvana. The question is how does one achieve the spiritual need no matter what the method one chooses? One must use both compassion and wisdom in day to day living. For better understanding read Vimalakirti Sutra.
