I can relate to what you are feeling. I once heard a monk said that wanting to become a Buddha is itself a trap that would keep us from advancing in the study/practice of Buddhism. Why torture yourself with dreaming about a big villa when all you are budgeted for is a single family home.

What would you said if I tell you that there is no such thing as Buddha or complete enlightenment. However, if you practice Buddhism to the best of your ability, all you will ever be is a loving, compassionate, honest, intellectual, and a pleasant individual to be around. Not only will you create peace and happiness for yourself, but for anyone who have the fortune to have met you. Will you still feel a sense of failure?

Apply the love you have for your family, parents, teachers, and friends to all the family, parents, teachers, and friends that exist in this world, regardless of race, religion, or species. Think for the good of all being and be true to this mindset for every decision you make.

You will never be a Buddha !!!!

But good luck at being a loving, compassionate, honest, intellectual, and a pleasant individual to be around.

Once you have gotten that far, then forget about what I said that there is no such thing as a Buddha and continue on with your path.
