Animal Control Officer story

Date: 2009-04-27, 3:44 CDT

=======================================================================
I am an Animal Control Officer in a small town in Texas. I have to pick up forgotten or abandoned and unloved animals every day!ost of them have no tags so that I can find their owner. I find many new moms and their pups that have been thrown out because mom got pregnant. In most cases it is because the owner had her tied out on a chain and thought that she would be safe there. I have been fortunate in being able to get many of the fur babies rescued or adopted out. However there are the times when rescue does not speak up and I can not find anyone to adopt..... Then I have to be the one to go get them and take them to another room. A room where only sadness is felt. I give them a shot of sedative so that it doesn't hurt, but they are still scared. I talk to them and tell them about Rainbow Bridge, trying to keep a calm voice while preparing another needle. I don't want them to know that I am crying because they have been
abandoned and treated so unfairly. I don't want them to know that I wish I could find the people who did this to them and show them how it feels. I give them kisses and tell them they will never have to worry about finding food again, or having somewhere warm and dry to sleep. Then I insert the needle, giving them the last love on earth that they will ever know, for some it is the only love they have ever gotten! Once they have taken their last breath, I lay my head over their body and cry out.... why can't people love the animals and take care of them the way they deserve?!

Thank you for reading my story!
