I've heard many people mentioned about this wonderful path too, but I'm not sure if it works or just plain talk. Do you have any proof that it'll work? Do you know how many people who have tried it and suffered no more? Just give me a few names, please no Buddha's disciples; I prefer people of modern days.

Friend PTDT, if you don't trust the person who taught the path, there is no reason why you should trust anyone else, not even the disciples of the buddha. Besides, an awakened person is no different from an enlightened one in physical appearance. Are you a psychic PTDT, can you read a person's knowledge, understanding, and experience from looking at the person? It has been said that the Buddha is the best teacher there is. He taught the Dharma excellent in the essence and in the particular, in the beginning, the middle, the end. You can't easily find a person who can teach the path more skillfully than the Buddha taught. The best way to prove whether the path works or not is to put it to the test yourself. If you think the path does not leading to the ending of suffering as promised by the Buddha and don't bother to follow it, then it will definitely be true that the path will not lead to the end of suffering . . . for you at least. There are some who can radiate animal magnetism and cause you to have faith and believe in whatever they said that they have accomplished, but it does not prove that they have reached the goal and ended suffering. You can only truthly see an awakened person when you yourself are awakened. There will come a time when the reading and talking of the dharma will not bring any more progress. That is the time when the practice must begins. For those who will not travel the path, it is a guarantee that the path will not end all their suffering. Ananda had contact with the Buddha for a very long period of time and had memorized 45 years' worth of dharma talks which shows that Ananda was not exactly an idiot. But he was not enlightened until he practiced the path.
